I just launched a brand new Back to School Literacy unit, and it combines so many great skills.
It's built around 3 original poems I wrote just for this(can't lie to you, had lots of help from AI with this one) — The first one about saying goodbye to summer, one about all those nervous-excited first day feelings, and one about everything little learners get to discover in preschool and kindergarten.
This is part of the first one
Each poem comes with very large display pages. I designed them to print oversized, so once you tape and laminate them together, you get these gorgeous large-format poem sheets you can hang on the wall, turn into a big book, or cut apart stanza by stanza.
And because they're laminated, they're interactive too! Kids can use dry erase markers right on the pages to circle letters, sight words, and more — then wipe it clean and do it all again with the next group.
There's also a full set of literacy centers to go with it — sight word matching, consonant practice, syllable sorting (cut and paste, color AND black and white), rhyming activities, and reading comprehension questions for every single stanza.
Oh, and I cannot forget the bingo games! Each poem has its own bingo game with 4 different boards, so it's perfect for small group or a full class game.
Basically — poetry, phonemic awareness, sight words, syllables, comprehension, AND a beautiful classroom display, all in one resource. I really wanted this to be something you could use in so many different ways depending on what your day looks like.
