This activity uses one to one correspondence to figure out the concepts of more than, less than or the same amount.
Young children very often count quickly without understanding what they are saying as they are just saying a string of numbers that they memorized.
In order to get them to really understand that each number means something there is the concept of one to one correspondence.
I remember always being told when I was a teacher that having children set the tables and put one plate for each chair and then one cup and one napkin etc it was teaches them this one to one correspondence idea.
This series that I created is specific for each season (or holiday) but, I will show the pictures I have from the one I created for Spring.
Each product starts off with a large photograph of an object in this case I used flowerpots.
There are four on a page (laminating them makes them more durable) and you can either use them as is with them on one page or as shown above cut above as large cards.
Along with these large cards are a number of smaller cards with items that go with that larger item. (in this case the flowerpots). For this product there are soil, seeds and watering cans.
Those need to be cut up and laminated as well.
The idea of this activity is twofold. First is the one to one correspondence piece where the children put (starting lets say with soil) one of each of the soil cards on the flower pot. One they are finished they look to see if the soil cards are more than the flower pots, less than the flower pots or the same.

They need to enter how many flower pots there are and then after the do the one to one correspondence with each set of small cards they should cut and paste the gluable pieces in the right boxes and enter the correct numbers.
