The summer crafts  that I am posting about here is part of a new venture. I have started series on YouTube where I find more traditional crafts for kids or what I call cookie cutter, copycat crafts.

I take a picture of a few of those kids crafts and I then show how one can do the same activity making it into a creative art activity.

As of this writing I have four YouTube videos (linked to below)on summer crafts that have two activities each each helpful for some summer creativity.

I am showing you the process by explaining how I did a bee craft and a campfire craft.

The first is is the bee craft for kids. I have two pictures showing you two of the bee crafts I found online that are the teachers idea that make it copycat, cookie cutter and do not allow for any creativity.

Another thing that I do to help children with their creative ideas, especially children that are only used to traditional kids crafts is I give them pictures of the project they will be making.

That only works if the idea lends itself to a choice of materials and ways of creating.

In this case of the bee craft I made a sheet in Canva with a few different kinds of bees along with a beehive or two.

I then give them materials to create their bees as if I was going to have them copy a real bee idea of mine.

I give yellow bee shapes, strips of yellow and black paper, google eyes etc.

It then show them the bee pictures, tell them we are making bee or bees and that they can use the material presented to make their bee craft as they would like.

This way it gives them some kind of structure and they can create according to their developmental level.

It's not only age level because some children are more developmentally ahead of other children their age.

Below are four examples of what some kids created. (I have more explanation in the YouTube video linked below)

One of the other projects in the videos is a campfire craft. I gave them this image for some ideas.

These two pictures are some of the adult ideas found online.

Here are some of the creations the children made using the materials I gave them.

Below are four links to four YouTube videos showing aside form the bee craft and campfire crafts, ice cream cone crafts, watermelon rock crafts, coffee filter flowers, egg carton lanterns, craft stick dolls and dragonflies.

Any questions you can comment below or comment on the YouTube video themselves.
