Mattisse was an artist who went through various stages in his artistic life.

Towards the end of his life when he was not well, he spent lots of time doing organic cut outs.

I spent some time going over geometric and organic shapes with the children.

We wrote down the various things that were geometric and then those that were organic.

I showed the children some of the work he had done, gave them some construction paper and scissors and told them that they were to draw with their scissors like Matisse did and create collages out of the shapes they cut out.
