Halloween crafts for kids usually center on pumpkins and ghoulish items.
I'm jumping on the bandwagon here and offering you two Halloween kids crafts that are developmentally appropriate yet keep to the spirit of Halloween.
Spider webs and witches.
Very often I give out reference sheets for children to use for various projects. This one is no different. I do have a spider web reference sheet and intend to create a witch one too.
I like to give many variations of a picture in my handouts so as not to lock them into one way of doing things.
Below you can see the sheet I created of spider webs.
There are two ways that you can make spider webs (I'm sure there are many more).
Method one is having the children draw their spider webs with a white oil pastel or crayon. They can then use watercolors or watered down tempera to paint over their invisible web which then makes it visible.
The second method is to draw the web with a black sharpie and then color it in either with markers, colored oil pastels OR watercolors.
The next project would be witch puppets.
The way I do puppets is by offering the kids a few different pieces of cardboard.
I would give a few different size rectangles, some really skinny rectangles that they can use for the arms and legs if they so choose and some small squares or small circles.
They can attach the pieces with either hot glue or a stapler.
You can also offer large tongue depressors with which they can add their puppet clothing to.
You will then offer an assortment of items that they can use to decorate their puppets as witches. I would give black pieces of paper, fabric, triangles, maybe some witchy hats, google eyes, some broom like pieces and let them have a go at it.
You might want to offer some pictures of witches as well.
Even though I don't have any samples of finished witch puppets I do have other random puppets to give you an idea of how it works.
Another way to make puppets is to use brown paper bags and give the the same pictures and materials to create their witch puppets.
Below was a project to create animal puppets hence the animal paper provided.
