I had started a great Christmas crafts with some preschoolers and then saw a similar activity on Buggy and Buddy on crafts using bells. It reminded me that I had not finished the activity as I didn’t have the bells when we were doing it. I just went to finish it up to give you some more quick, easy and inexpensive ornament crafts that you can make for your tree.
I myself don’t have a tree (as I’m Jewish) but, I do plan on using these decorations for a holiday we have in the Fall time where we hang things in a hut outdoors. (called Sukkot or Sukkos).
After you cut up your egg cartons, give the the children an assortment of materials to decorate them with. I gave them some small shells here, which was a bit of a mistake.
Better to give them items that stick easily with glue or have sharp ends that they can poke into the styrofoam egg cartons. (it all depends on the types of cartons you have).
I gave them glue along with the materials and told them to decorate them. You can also give them markers but, the markers will have to be permanent if you don’t want the colors to slide right off.
These are the pieces of egg cartons decorated.
When I went to prepare this post to finish up the ornaments I saw that the best way to hang these are with pipe cleanesr. I tried ribbon for one ,which was OK but, the pipe cleaners just stick right through the egg cartons and you can thread the bells to the bottom of the pipe cleaner
As I was playing around I saw that you can also hang more than one bell on the hanging pipe cleaner
AND you can hang a few of the ornaments on one pipe cleaner with the bells interspersed.
There are only some of the ways I found to hang them and I’m sure you can find others.
If you don’t live near a Walmart or any place else that it easy to get these bells than you can get at this link… Jingle Bells.
In case you are still in the market for more ornament making, I have another post from a long while ago on other Christmas crafts ideas that are also about very inexpensive ornaments that you can make with household items.
Pin to save for later
