Coloring is always a great time filler (especially for girls). Little girls can sit for hours making hearts and rainbows and sometimes you want to move them a bit out of their comfort zone. I’m now talking about more sophisticated drawing activities like teaching them HOW to draw or even just more sophisticated ideas for drawing. I’m talking about just make your kids coloring activities more interesting.
One of the ways I have done that in the past as seen above is to just give them papers in different shapes.
It kind of makes them think a bit more. Of course, you don’t have to stick to only the typical round or square shapes as more organic, wavy shapes work as well.
If you want to add even more interest then what you can do is add some other objects along with some glue and then just watch and see what they can come up with.
Even just add some craft sticks and glue opens up a whole world of creativity.
You do need to be prepared for the really young children that will not think as advanced as the ones above and may very well just make a picture by using the crafts sticks as you see below.
But that’s what educational art is all about. Letting children create at the levels they are ready for….and watch as their work gets more advanced as they get older and are allowed to think through their projects.
Do you have any other ideas and ways to make everyday coloring more interesting?
I love this! I think I need to give my kids – who love drawing – some paper cut in shapes like this and see what they do with it!
I’ll bet along with the new shapes, different coloring media would also make it more interesting
