What people have said about Faigies professional development workshops

"On two different occasions Faigie Kobre led staff development workshops on “art in the preschool" classroom in our preschool. On both occasions as a community of learners we benefited greatly from her expertise.

Faigie taught the teachers different techniques to help us help our young artists grow. Products she gave our teachers are invaluable tools that are still being used today."

Sheryl Hecht Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, NY

"Faigie Kobre gave a wonderful hands-on art workshop  for our Head Start early childhood staff. The teachers report that they have implemented many of the techniques and skills into their classroom art activities and daily routine.
The workshop has inspired and empowered the teachers to embrace a more creative learning experience for the children. We are amazed at the difference in children’s confidence and independence. We were not surprised when the data showed increased scores in problem-solving, creativity, and fine motor skills.
 "

D'vora Katz Shira Head Start Brooklyn, NY

"Faigie delivered a workshop in my school a few years ago that was so enthusiastically received by my teachers that it changed their whole perspective  on children’s art.

They began to let go of their need to control  how the final product appeared and began to really allow the children to engage in the process in their own way. They finally learned to appreciate that in early childhood it is more often the process we value rather than the product."

FAQ

What do we do with kids who don't like art?

The reason many kids don't like art is because of their previous art experiences. Allow those children lots of process only art, with no expectations, and see how they come alive.

There are teachers who do creative art already

Even if there are teachers who so some creative art there are many different ways that one can transform an art curriculum and this program covers the best ways to do so.

Aren't projects great for learning to follow directions?

There are so many ways to learn to follow directions. Even within  more creative types of art there are activities that need direction following. Using art to teach direction following is wasting the amazing opportunities art has for growth.

Don't certain projects actually teach kids things?

Using art to teach is a waste of art. Art is a vehicle to help children think, solve problems and boost their self esteem not for "teaching".

How do I explain the benefits of creative art to parents?

Actually today there are many parents who really don't like the copycat crafts and are thrilled when you change over. They like to see their children's work not the teacher's. With a little parent education they usually become your biggest advocates.

Lots of teachers don't like messy activities

Children need to use their senses to learn and therefore,  messy activities for very young children are extremely important. There are ways to contain it and when teachers want to look out for their students good they will learn how to deal with it.

How do you know this way is better than traditional crafts?

Anytime you want to see what works you need to look at the research. In the past 50-100 years there have been many child development experts who studied children and saw how they learn best. To learn how to teach children we look towards the experts who have discovered how they learn best.

What type of art can I do that will work with my curriculum?

There are many types of art activities to do with children. It all depends on their age and level. As part of this program there is an Art Activities HUB that has many videos and handouts to help you get a program like this up and running.

About Faigie

Meet Faigie Kobre, a seasoned and passionate educator with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the world of early childhood education and creative art. Holding a  Masters in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education, Faigie's journey in education began in the preschool setting.

This was  where she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of creative expression in early childhood development. As an early childhood director, she spearheaded initiatives that focused on fostering child-centered learning environments, and has been a  been a sought-after presenter, conducting workshops for numerous early childhood and early elementary schools. Her workshops have left a lasting impact, inspiring educators to embrace innovation and cultivate a love for art and self-expression among their students.

For the past decade, Faigie has served as an elementary school art teacher at Bais Yaakov Ateres Miriam, where she has been instrumental in implementing the renowned TAB choice-based art curriculum. This hands-on experience in the art classroom allows Faigie to blend theory with practical insights, creating a holistic approach to professional development that resonates with teachers and school leaders alike.

Creative, developmentally appropriate  art can have a transformative impact on the entire classroom, creating a more dynamic,  and fulfilling educational experience for students and teacher.

Faigie was  our elementary art teacher for the past eleven years and has given her workshops to our early childhood teachers as well. Our teachers love her workshops and have implemented many of her ideas. Since then they have seen their students gain confidence in their ideas and have been able to take more risks in their art work. They love the way their students enjoy art and are no  longer  worried about "doing it right". Many teachers go visit Faigie's art room in order to gain more ideas for their classrooms, as they continuously see the benefits of creative art.
