Line is one of the 7 elements of art. Even though I usually do activities with my classes that incorporate the elements into the project we are doing, sometimes I will concentrate on a particular element.

In this case,as you can see we are doing lines.

We discussed beforehand many of the different lines there ar and I then gave the children (first graders in this case) a choice of 2 pieces of construction paper.

They took markers and had to create all sorts of lines on their papers.

When they were done filling up their pages, they cut them out.

and then had to collage them onto the other color paper they chose in the beginning,

Many of them made fairly abstract pieces of artwork but, then you always get a couple of the kids that use their assignments to create something more representation as in 2 of the images below.

For a simple activity highlighting the concept of line, this one went over very well.
